Research Experience
May 2009 – Present                                       Michigan State University                East Lansing, MI
Predoctoral fellow to Dr. Elizabeth Gardner
  • My research has focused on the role of energy intake and adipokines on immune homeostasis, with a specific emphasis on natural killer cell development and function in calorie restricted mice.  This research has been expanded to investigate the role of energy intake on immunity to influenza virus in a mouse model.
  • Developed flow cytometric based methods for analyzing protein phosphorylation, and leukocyte proliferation, apoptosis, trafficking, cytotoxicity, and cytokine production.
  • Extensive familiarity using BD Biosciences FACS Canto II, LSR II, and Accuri C6 flow cytometers.  Analyzed 10 color flow cyotmetry data using FlowJo software.
  • Utilized ELISA, magnetic cell sorting, RNA isolation from blood and tissues, methods for viral quantification (RT-PCR, MDCK assay), and Echo Magnetic Resonance Imaging for murine body composition analysis
  • Collaborated on multiple project involving diet and immune function, with emphasis on the role of dietary interventions in reducing the severity of colitis and colorectal cancer in SMAD3-/- mice
